A teacher may feel, This student is too difficult. A student may feel, I can’t handle what’s being asked of me. When both nervous systems are under stress, the interaction can escalate quickly.
Before assuming a student simply doesn’t want to learn, consider capacity, regulation, and what their response may be communicating.
