A child is still a child, even when their behavior is challenging.
A student may be tall, look older, or have behaviors that are difficult to manage. That doesn’t mean they’ve spent months plotting against the adults in the room.
When educators feel overwhelmed, unsupported, or unsuccessful, it can become easy to make the student the problem. But blaming children doesn’t fix inadequate training, staffing, resources, or systems of support.
The question shouldn’t be, “What’s wrong with this child?” It should be, “What does this student need, and what do the adults and systems around them need to provide it?”
