“Raw Data” vs IEP Progress Reports — What Parents Need to Know

“Raw data” isn’t the progress report.
It’s the evidence BEHIND it.

Those percentages on an IEP progress report didn’t appear out of nowhere.

They came from:
• Notes
• Work samples
• Tracking sheets
• Observations
• Data collected over time

And that matters.

Because raw data helps teams understand:
👉 Why progress is happening
👉 Why progress is NOT happening
👉 What needs to change to better support the student

If a student is making little to no progress, raw data gives the team the opportunity to adjust before an entire school year is lost.

That’s why parents ask for it.

Not to “catch” teachers—
but to understand how to better support the child.
