A title doesn’t automatically come with the training needed to do the job well.
When he stepped into the role of 504 coordinator, there wasn’t a formal training process waiting for him. He had scripts, access to someone at the district when questions came up, and a lot he had to learn on his own.
That raises an important question for schools: when educators are given responsibilities that directly affect student supports and accommodations, are we also giving them the preparation and ongoing support they need to carry those responsibilities well?
