After years of hearing predictions about what Kennedy’s future might look like, Jennifer says people now know better than to talk to her about prognosis.
Her story is a reminder of why we have to be careful about turning predictions into limitations. A diagnosis can help us understand support needs, but it cannot tell us everything a person will experience, accomplish, or become.
Assume competence. Support the person in front of you. Leave room for possibilities you cannot predict.
