In fourth grade, she was still working through beginning-level books. With targeted special education support, she reached grade level by the end of fifth grade. By middle school, she was taking advanced classes and reading above grade level.
That experience stayed with her. One teacher saw what was possible and provided the support she needed to get there. Years later, that became part of her reason for entering special education herself.
