Knowing the rule is not the same as having the skill to follow it.
A student may be able to tell you exactly what the rule is. They may even know what happened the last time they broke it. But during a moment of significant escalation, accessing that knowledge and using it effectively can be much harder.
That’s the difference between knowledge and skill.
We don’t expect someone to learn to drive simply by watching a video. Skills require instruction, practice, repetition, feedback, and support. Behavioral and regulation skills deserve that same understanding.
