Knowing the law is one thing. Knowing how to navigate the IEP table is another.
It’s easy to think that citing the regulation will immediately settle the conversation: “Here’s what 34 CFR §300.115 says, so now we’ll fix it.”
But advocacy rarely works that simply. Understanding the requirements matters, but so does knowing how to ask the right questions, address disagreement, use the data, and keep the conversation focused on the student.
Knowing the regulation gives you a foundation. Knowing how to use that knowledge effectively is another skill entirely.
