When others tried to define what her daughter was capable of or where she should “fit,” this parent kept asking questions, learning what her daughter was entitled to, and standing her ground when necessary.
Those conversations weren’t always comfortable. At times, formal filings became part of the process. But the goal remained the same: making sure decisions weren’t based on a box someone else had created for a child they didn’t truly know.
Students deserve the opportunity to show us what they can do before we decide what they can’t.
