Paraprofessionals are incredibly important.
Schools would not function without them.
They support students, classrooms, and teachers in ways that change lives every day.
But paraprofessionals are not the teacher of record.
An occasional emergency?
A flat tire?
A doctor’s appointment?
That happens.
But when students are routinely left without a credentialed special education teacher present—especially in higher support classrooms—that raises serious concerns.
Because support staff should be supported too.
And students deserve access to appropriately staffed classrooms—not systems running in survival mode.
Advocacy means asking:
👉 Is this temporary?
👉 Or is this happening every day?
Because those are two very different situations.
